Chantal Marie began her musical career in Quebec City in 1982, performing in many popular cafés and bistros. She has a passion for storytelling songs relating to legends, Canadian and medieval folklore. Her musical influences include Francis Cabrel, Garolou, Michel Fugain, Gordon Lightfoot, Joan Baez. Chantal Marie’s popularity in the community has stemmed from her fresh interpretations of popular francophone music. Chantal Marie’s singing and guitar playing create a rich and harmonious sound, blending well with her 6 or 12 string Martin guitars. While living in Quebec City, she continued to delve into the world of French music, expanding her repertoire. In the mid Eighties, Chantal Marie moved to Yellowknife to work in the Canadian Arctic on the Ice Road and continued to perform in various music venues in both Yellowknife and Inuvik. She brought French songs to a new and remote area, along with guitarist/ singer Robert Auger who is featured on this recording. She also made the acquaintance of Offenbach’s guitarist ,singer-songwriter John McGale in 1983 and kept in touch throughout the years. John consented to Chantal Marie et l’Onde Sonore to record his song “ Down to the River “. It is a beautiful bilingual ballad and showcases the incredible cello work of Conrad Sobieraj. The CD also features original songs by bassist/guitarist/composer Marc Beaudin with many new arrangements of classic French songs. Recently, Chantal Marie has travelled to France and regularly visits Quebec City and Montreal , keeping in touch with her heritage and receiving inspiration for her music and performances. Chantal Marie has previously released “ Roads, Paths, and Tales “ with “The Road Band”, a collection of Folk classics, francophone, and Canadian roots. We hope you enjoy the music of Chantal Marie et L’Onde Sonore. Please look for us on the club and festival circuit.
